Indonesian Journalists Visit The Mandana Barn

Four journalists from Indonesia traveled to Syracuse in June to spend two days meeting with local professionals on the topic of “Teacher Education in the U.S.” This group was organized by the Foreign Press Center in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta. They were accompanied by Ms. Gabrielle Price of the U.S. Foreign Press Corps. During their stay, the group met with Anne Marie Voutsinas of the Syracuse Teacher’s Center, Cathy Leogrande, Chair of the Education Dept. at LeMoyne College, Professor Bill Smullen at the Newhouse School at SU, Laurie Menkin, VP of the Syracuse Board of Education, and Sara Daggett, President of the Liverpool Faculty Association. Their meetings included a visit to H.W. Smith Elementary School in Syracuse where they met with Principal Sharon Birnkrant and School District Director of Communications, Neil Driscoll. The visitors also observed a class in session and learned about the diverse student population at the school. In addition, the visitors enjoyed a home hospitality at The Mandana Barn, hosted by owners Tim and Heather Carroll.
